Solid-wall Solar Greenhouse

The solar greenhouse with a thermal wall is an energy-efficient facility specifically designed for cold regions in northern China. Originating in rural northern China in the 1950s, it was developed to overcome the harsh winter conditions where traditional open-field farming and simple shelters could not support crop growth. Early farmers adapted the insulation principles of traditional "sun-facing cave dwellings," constructing single-slope structures with south-facing light-transmitting surfaces and thick north-facing walls made of adobe or brick. This marked the prototype of the solar greenhouse with a thermal wall. After decades of continuous improvement, the wall materials have been upgraded to brick-concrete and polystyrene composite structures. Paired with steel frameworks and transparent plastic films, it has gradually evolved into a standardized agricultural facility.
